INSCAPE by UZMA NAWAZ
PAKISTANI ARTIST SORAYA SIKANDER EXHIBITS A NEW SERIES ‘INSCAPE – EXPLORING INNER LANDSCAPES’ AT LEADING INTERNATIONAL ART GALLERY UNICORN GALLERY 2018 IN LAHORE.
She presents a new series of calligraphic landscape paintings based on her interpretation of Pakistan.
Her paintings ‘Sunset‘ and ‘Horizon dark‘ are a showcase of different times of the day at a particular place. She shows the transformation of things and how they emerge as totally different in different hues and shades.
Mangroves are purposely painted in murky shades of green to show their true colours. Very close to reality, they show the mesh of various vines under water.
Sea and Sky are two distinct paintings yet show a similarity of theme. Likewise, pond and forest are reflections of these specific places that show resemblance in many forms. Butterflies, Bushes and Florescent are interesting depiction of flowers and
natures beauty. The most striking comes across the Webby, Velvet and Lace that are a bunch of flowers painted to perfection. Indoor Red 1 and Indoor Red 2 are series of two similar paintings showing vases that see, to be emitting fragrance.
This is the artist’s nineteenth exhibition held at the prestigious unicorn Gallery 2018 in Lahore. Soraya Sikander has also exhibited at the National Art Museum as part of the
Beijing Biennale 2018. Soraya Sikander landscapes reference actual locations, describing the idea of being at a place – as seen through the mind. Attended by leading curators, museum and gallery directors. ‘Pond’ painting is also featured prominently in the exhibition and is the invitation card cover.
Soraya Sikander paintings are critically acclaimed.
